Who is Luís Filipe Vieira? Who has been ahead of Benfica since 2003? Who is the debtor man in more than 466 million, with his companies, to Banco Espírito Santo? The latter was also indicted in the BPN [Banco Português de Negócios] case and was present with his driver in an assault of a Caixa Geral de Depósitos employee. His driver, named José Carriço (also called, Zé of Benfica), was caught in the stadium of Luz in a club vehicle (!) with 9.5 kg of cocaine, and this person is the right arm of Luís Filipe Vieira’s for many years. All this was reported, but it is racked by the Portuguese media, inexplicable protection for so many crimes and debts by one of the wealthiest men in Portugal.
But who is Luís Filipe Vieira?
Luís Filipe Vieira was born on June 22, 1949, in Lisbon, in a humble environment.
He began his professional life in a tire shop, Morgado, and Fernando, in Campo de Ourique. He was hired later by the company Celestino Gomes Bessa in the same area.
It opened is first company named Auto-Pneus da Póvoa company, in partnership with Eduardo Carvalho,
The empire of the tires grew, and he even received the nickname of ‘Gaddafi of the tires’ because the society of the President of the Benfica “stole” the business to the competitors and he is amiably considered terrorist to them.
The first (known) offense of Luís Filipe Vieira
In 1984 it was remembered as the first offense committed by the President of Benfica, known by the media (there were undoubtedly others before). Pedro Guerra, a great defender of Luís Filipe Vieira, wrote an article in 2001 for the newspaper O Independente about this crime. Here is an excerpt from this article:
“Luís Filipe Vieira, the football manager of the sporting public limited company (SAD) of Benfica, was convicted of robbery. The case dates back to July 1993, when the all-powerful football man was tried and sentenced before the Court of Appeals. Luís Filipe Vieira was sentenced to 20 months in prison and showed no regret for what he did. ”
“The facts go back to the beginning of March 1984, when José Luis Gama, a 62-year-old businessman from Arganil, complained to Luís Filipe Vieira, at the time only 35 years old and with the profession of the merchant, the behavior of Adriano Varela. This is a case of accounts that were not honored, related to an assignment of shares in TIM – Transportes Internacionais de Mercadorias, Lda., a company based in Lisbon. Of the assets of this company was a lorry (tractor vehicle) and the semi-trailer, all in the amount of 4400 contos [around 22’000 euros]”.
“They drew up a plan that consisted in stealing the vehicles from António Varela and the TIM company. Vieira hired Suzano’s services [António Suzado was an individual who used various means to “scare” people], and he wasted no time in presenting himself with a group of three “friends”: António Mourato, a 40-year-old driver, Albino Rosendo, 32, and Francisco Aboim and Luís Filipe Vieira paid the services of those men.”
“It was on March 28, 1984, that they took action. Around two o’clock in the morning, after having tried to locate the truck and the semi-trailer in Setúbal, Antônio Suzano and his team eventually found them in the Customs park in Lisbon, where the driver António Caseleiro kept them. The quartet struck the cab of the tractor, and the driver, who was staying overnight inside the car, opened the side window. Then António Mourato had the idea of identifying as well as his companions, as being of Interpol, and told Casaleiro that they were coming to seize the vehicles. ”
“Not satisfied with this announcement, Suzano and his” boys “showed the holsters, which had no weapon, threatening that they would arrest him if he did not drive the vehicles to the place he would be told. António Casaleiro eventually gave way, leading the truck to the premises of Caterpneus, a Moscavida firm that Vieira was one of the partners. When the driver parked the truck, the quartet was friendly: he gave the driver money to pay the taxi to get back home. José Gama ordered Antonio Mourato to hide the vehicles in Matosinhos; the truck was finally intercepted in Pombal in a stop-operation. ”
“Luís Filipe Vieira recalls the story with some revolt:” The guy who owed us money, was never sentenced. That’s the justice that we have here. ”
At one point we agreed with Luís Filipe Vieira because with the justice that we have in Portugal, Mr. Luís Filipe Vieira will never be behind bars …and that is completely wrong.
When Luís Filipe Vieira entered the football world
According to the newspaper Record, in a 2001 report, Luís Filipe Vieira “attended the final of the 84 Cup winner’s Cup in Basel, where FC Porto lost 2-1 to Juventus. He met on the trip Jorge Nuno Pinto de Sousa, brother of Pinto de Sousa, the current president of the Arbitration Council of the Portuguese Football Federation, who made him the proposal [to be a member of the FCPorto], only later he met Pinto da Costa, of whom he became friends.”
Luís Filipe Vieira was a partner of three “big” clubs of Portugal, Porto, Benfica, and Sporting.
