On June 24, the newspaper Expresso revealed new information about the e-mails case. These were related to tickets offered to various members of the FPF and the League.
Paulo Gonçalves warned Luís Filipe Vieira that João Leal, who is responsible for the registrations and transfers of the FPF, wanted a ticket for elements of the Disciplinary Council of the FPF for the Europa League match Benfica-Juventus. These were Manuel Saraiva, Vítor Carvalho, Domingos Cordeiro, Leonel Gonçalves, Jorge Amaral and João Guimas. João Leal said: “Everyone wants, preferably, two invitations each”.
Paulo Gonçalves tells Benfica President that these elements “were too cocky” for having let Jorge Jesus go, “applying” only a “fine for his expulsion” in the match against Porto.
One of them was Andreia Couto, who was the executive director of the League at the time because she was “inexhaustible in the care and appreciation of all the requirements of SLB throughout the time”.
Another was Nuno Cabral, the dear boy league delegate.
Rodolfo Vaz was also one of them, “Benfica partner who always treated well Oblak in Leiria when no one believed in him”.
And finally the engineer Emídio Fildago, “responsible for the appointment of delegates of the League and decisive in the opinions issued …”.
The Expresso wrote the following note:
“Emídio Fidalgo was in the midst of the confusion in the Jorge Jesus’ incident with a policeman in September of 2013 in a Vitória de Guimarães – Benfica match. Fidalgo, as well as Paulino Carvalho and Paulo Santos (delegates), Jorge Jesus and the referees Bruno Esteves, Mário Dionísio, Rui Teixeira and Manuel Oliveira did not write anything about the case in the reports sent to the FPF. The referee, the assistant referees, the fourth referee and the delegates were suspended for one round of games; Jesus got a 30-day suspension, and the Public Prosecutor ordered him to pay a fine of 25,000 € to two charities and 500 € to the PSP (Public Security Police) agent. There is no record of any punishment to Emídio Fidalgo.
Finally, in another case, on April 3, 2015, Paulo Gonçalves told Vieira that he needed invitations to the Benfica-Nacional. These were for David Luiz, Nuno Cabral and Ferreira Nunes, the head of the Classification Section of the referees. Cabral needed five tickets, two of them for assistant referees, and the two tickets of Ferreira Nunes would be for Renato, son of Ferreira Nunes. And Vieira said that for Ferreira Nunes the tickets would have to be for the presidential tribune.
Paulo Sá e Cunha of the Penal Lawyers Forum admits that there may be indications of a crime of corruption in a sport when there is an advantage in exchange for a counterpart.
I think that at this time everyone already has an idea of the advantages and the counterparts …
The newspaper Expresso, in the same article, asked questions to a few of those involved in these last revelations. Below are transcribed those questions and answers.
Why did you advise Luís Filipe Vieira to invite Andreia Couto, Emídio Fidalgo, Nuno Cabral and Rodolfo Vaz for a Europa League final? And why did you invite five members of the Disciplinary Board to attend a Benfica’s European final? How have they helped Benfica? And what role did you have to reduce the sentence to Jorge Jesus?
In the case of a European final, numerous institutional invitations were addressed to the most diverse members of the different sports structures: LFPF, FPF, ANTF, SJPF, APAF including football clubs, newspaper directors, etc., and others of a personal nature whose justification is not necessary! The people mentioned did nothing to help Benfica, and the question was insidious and slanderous. In particular, the question about the role of engineer Fidalgo, as a member of the Executive Committee of the League, should be addressed to that committee. As for the question of the punishment applied to the coach Jorge Jesus, given the nature of his duties, the role played by the members of the CD [disciplinary board] was the same they had when sanctioning, on several occasions, the club SLB, its players and their leaders. Again, the question is insidious and slanderous.
Paulo Gonçalves, Legal Adviser of Benfica.
Is it normal for the club to invite elements of the CD [Disciplinary Board] to Benfica’s matches? Did you invite Ferreira Nunes to watch games in the presidential tribune?
The offer of invitations/tickets existed when they were requested institutionally, via FPF, by the interested ones. Regarding the invitations to the presidential tribune, the SLB protocol regularly invites the presidents of the FPF, the League, the SJFP, APAF, CA and other members of this Council, presidents of other clubs, other clubs do the same. In fact, there are columnists from the newspaper Expresso who attend the presidential tribune of the SLB and they can confirm this point.
Luís Filipe Vieira, President of Benfica.
Why did João Leal ask five double tickets for the final of the Europa League for the following elements of the Disciplinary Board: Manuel Saraiva, Vítor Carvalho, Domingos Cordeiro, Leonel Gonçalves, Jorge Amaral and João Guimas?
Members of the FPF’s governing bodies have the right of access to the stadium to watch national and international matches organized by clubs. This extension comes from the FPF Card Regulations, since 1984. Because access to the stadium is via tourniquets, it is necessary for the FPF services to contact the services of the clubs and ask to reserve the own ticket invitation to allow entry to the complex. These contacts take place with most clubs in the professional associations.
Official FPF Source
Did you receive invitations or asked for invitations to attend a European final? What help do you provide or provided to Benfica?
I do not confirm or deny if I received tickets. As for having been decisive, that must be a mistake, because I do not remember any of that. As for the Vitória de Guimarães-Benfica case, I was never prosecuted. I was on the pitch, but It was not my job to report anything.
Emídio Fidalgo, Head of Delegates’ Appointment
What is your role in the league and what is your relationship with Benfica?
Delete my number. I have nothing more to say.
Nuno Cabral, Former Benfica delegate
What comments do you have about this information that has been made public?
I do not make any comments.
Ferreira Nunes, Former Head of the Classification Section
Did you receive invitations to attend the European Final?
I did, but I went to that European League final at the invitation of UEFA and not Benfica.
Andreia Couto, At the time executive director of the League.
Reading these beautiful answers, we can easily highlight some facts:
Paulo Gonçalves is a legal adviser; lying is in his blood, he has to lie daily in several areas, so what he says is normal.
Luís Filipe Vieira, well, lying is his strong attribute, he even says there are no Ilegal Organized Supporters in Benfica …
Now the fun begins. So, according to Vieira and Paulo Gonçalves, there is no harm in offering tickets, but Emídio Fidalgo is afraid to confirm or deny if he received tickets?
Then the dear boy Nuno Cabral, don’t want to answer and ask the journalist to delete his number. Feeling of guilt?
As for Ferreira Nunes, he doesn’t want to answer because he is completely guilty.
